Experiencing Poverty: Voices from the Bottom
By D. Stanley Eitzen, Kelly Eitzen Smith

well sunday was interesting... i led worship, which went really well except pastor changed the last song and i hadn't heard it/ practiced it but i made it through and it was fun. then after service i decided to teach a childrens church and the lady who runs it invited us (me, melissa, jenna and maddie) over for lunch to give us the materials for teaching etc. so we went over there and hung out with her granddaughter (leah grace) and we had a colouring contest (the judges were judy and frank, whos house we were at) and guess who won the contest. yours truly. (over their 6 year old granddaughter) here was my picture that won me peanut m&m's::

oh and also, she had an elvis blanket and i was like, oh thats awesome..and she gave it to me!! which was weird but she was clearly overly generous (yea i was the favorite... duh)

so that was cool. very busy week ahead... but i am looking forward to the weekend.

So here is a little update on how my life is going/what I do these days for those interested: Along with my classes, I have 4 on campus jobs and am in Gospel Choir (I am a soloist), Select Travel Gospel Choir (we will be traveling to other churches/organizations to perform) and I am a Worship Leader at my church (Higgins Wesleyan). I suppose the best way for you to pray would be to see what I am doing all day and what I am involved in (and believe me, I need prayer with my schedule)

Mondays and Wednesdays:
10...Issues in Nutrition
11... Chapel
12:30... swim 1/2 mile
12:50... Issues in 3rd World Country Development
2-4... work
4... swim another 1/2 mile
5... work
6... dinner
6:30-9:30... Culture and Family Relations

Tuesdays and Thursdays
9:35... Special Topics: Issues in Poverty
11... work
12... run 1 mile and swim 1 mile
1... work
2:50... Lifespan Development of the Family
4... work
8... watch 'the biggest loser' :)

Fridays:
10... Issues in Nutrition
11... lunch date with the girls
12-2... work
2.. Worship practice
3:30... run 2 miles
4... swim 1 mile

Saturdays:
On Saturdays I attend a lot of benefits around town (this weekend I am doing one for a pastor and his church in Uganda). I also work 4 hours and sometimes have Worship practice.

Sundays: (once a month i have 4 hour long Zambia team building meetings)
10... go to church early to practice for worship (yea, yea, thats not early)
11... church
12:30... lunch with the girls
2:30... swim 1 mile
4... Travel Gospel Choir Practice
7... Koinonia (an hour long praise and worship service)
8-10... Gospel Choir Practice

There are a few weekend conferences and lectures on poverty and development or African ministries I'll be attending, and I have volunteered to work at a soup kitchen once a month, and also a kids "camp" (day long organized games for kids who are abused or neglected by family members). I just handed in my application to work at Royal Family Kid's Camp as a counselor for severely abused and neglected children, so if i get that volunteer job I'll have training coming up as well.
So needless to say I am busy.

(oh, p.s. i also have a boyfriend. Some of you may know him as Stealth JR.or even Jack Bower, but some of you may just know him as Chris...)

i suppose that's it...

Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt.
Who am I?
That the bright and morning star,
Would choose to light the way,
For my ever wandering heart.

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.

Who am I?
That the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love
And watch me rise again.
Who am I?
That the voice that calmed the sea,
Would call out through the rain,
And calm the storm in me.

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.

Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.

Matthew 25: 35 ‘For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 ‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 ‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 “The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

I also have a 3rd job subbing for any custodial worker who can't work... so that adds A LOT more hours in each week... Also I meet with professors for lunch and breakfast at least twice a week.

ALSO i am starting up an internship for psych soon. Currently I am finished with my Psych major and Education minor and I am just finishing up my Family Studies minor.

So I also have a dilemma. I was supposed to go back to Zambia as a help for the Mayterm, but it looks like they're changing the program, and I might not be able to go- dependent on how many first timers want to/can go. I definitely am going back, but it might not be with the mayterm group. HOWEVER, I am looking into a trip the school is doing to MOROCCO!! Its a church tent building group who would be working with Orphanages, and there is a lot of Arabic and English learning and stuff, so that could be awesome... kind of give me a chance to see another (VERY DIFFERENT) area in Africa. There are two other trips I am looking into, one is to Russia, and the other to Honduras. Any feedback?? The info meetings start this week so I'll be going to those...

I think I might see my Chris (Gardner) this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
